That DM turned into my debut essay called “You and I Were Roommates Once” — an ode to my sister and the years we were roommates in Phoenix after she got divorced and I was a ball of depression and anxiety.

Fun fact that didn’t make the essay: I went to speech therapy in elementary school, which was a constant source of juvenile teasing. Reading outloud and public speaking are still things that give me anxiety.
